The Painted Voices is the magazine that brings you closer to the work of women artists, studying the “female gaze”.

The female gaze is a term in the feminist theory that represents the gaze of the spectator, character or director of an artistic work. But more than gender, it is about representing women as subjects with agency. Much of the history of art has depended on the male gaze, which literally objectifies women into objects of pleasure to be dominated or consumed, a passive object that is neither active nor dynamic.

The female gaze, on the other hand, as understood, is empathetic in the sense that it focuses on agency and even more so on the internal and emotional landscape of representation. Things don't just happen to the character, but instead we get a window into her rich inner world. It changes the archetype of femininity and deconstructs female social expectations.
